This event is
hosted by Watch This Space, a contemporary artist run gallery, studios
and event space located at 4/9 George Crescent. The WTS mission
is to support, foster and promote contemporary art practice in the
central desert region, through presenting a program of onsite and
offsite projects that inspire and stimulate local, interstate and
international audiences.
In 2005, as a result of the extensive partnership building in the
community, WTS facilitated a multi disciplinary Steering Group,
that came together to shape an event focused on public art, exchange
and collaboration and community engagement. Watch This Space purposefully
developed this idea, as it became clear that a much broader understanding
of the arts and arts practice was needed.
In 2006 WTS Program Manager Kieren Sanderson continued to facilitate
the expansion of this idea. As the event shifted and responded to
different ideas and needs, a name was identified: Art~Land~Culture.
Art~Land~Culture (ALC) is a collaboration of individuals, community
centres, local enterprise, indigenous centres, government bodies
and art organisations. The unifying vision of the Art~Land~Culture
consortium is the underlying precept that sustainable development
is inextricably linked to the active cultural life of a community.
Art~Land~Culture aims to raise awareness and inspire visions of
sustainable social, environmental and creative practices with both
contemporary & traditional art events, forums, educational activities
and youth activities.
