After a rainy day, with the sun peelers and clouds that cry..
Mary Barton
“These paintings are in oil and acrylic on linen and gouache and pen on paper. I started making them when I arrived here for this residency at Watch this Space in November 2021.
I like to capture the feeling or emotion of a place in my paintings. They are often scribbly and playful intuitive responses to my current surroundings. I feel so lucky to be in central australia. So far I have found Mparntwe/Alice Springs to be full of beautiful colours. I'm interested in memory, observation and materiality, how these elements can make a painting, how painting and drawing can be intuitive and responsive to specific anxieties and physical tactile feelings.
