16th July

A large aim for this time/ residency is spending time on Apmere (Country). Strengthening angkentye-atyinhe (my language), spending time with family.

Be grabbing some reference pics, incorporating landscapes, floral and fauna elements into my work, through the backdrops and featuring them in the fantastical queer world that I portray in my work.

Goals:

Collect more pertipalawe, making bouquets as references, and showing that range of native flowers that can be used in decorative bouquets

And used as references for still life drawing

Piecing together a palette of country colours

20th July

Finished prepping my canvas, I really wanna do a cute botanical backdrop on canvas, one reminiscent of vintage movies and the canvas landscapes they would create - maybe something in beige and pastels - research canvas

Organising to go out for kere merne on the lhere this weekend, get some reference photos while out there

Im getting the first bouquet done, using oil pastels for the first time.

Definitely need to get a q tip or those paper blenders

And look up how to get details but i think i just need to be painting on a larger scale + painting larger subjects, the composition is a bit questionable, in dont like the table as much but it just needs more details and filling out

And i can make the frame pretty

Went and got materials and art stuff at Jacksons in town, so cute they have a discount for WTS members, thank god!

27th July

Came in to draw ilentye-mape for kake, saw a mob of them at the hospital saying goodbye, I wanted to sketch that and say goodbye through the as as well, maybe chuck in aherre and apwerte-arenye for him as well

-went to wigley waterhole

- got reeds for some weaving, flex that kinaesthetic need

-bark for dyes

-maybe use from of the bark to make a brush, incorporate that texture as well

-need apwerte to smash them/ get the fibres out

5th August

Was playing with soft pastels today, trying to figure out the background, just feels like makeup pigment and the blend is so nice

Figuring out the florals that i wanna utilise in my ‘fragrance’ series

Tré Turner (re/they) is an Arrernte painter, producer, performer based in narrm. Working through multi disciplinary projects, they create spaces to highlight and centre queer and/or Blak communities. Exploring Blak futurism, gender and sexuality, sovereignty and Country through queer fantastical scenes, dreaming of distant and forgotten futures that the land remembers.

Turner will be spending time on Country, collecting natural and recylced materials to experiment with and find audio and visual references for the fantastical queer utopia world they are creating in their artwork. Working with language and ancestral memories that are held in the grain of sands of the ephemeral river that runs through Country, connecting with queer memories that are beyond the everywhen and speak their dreams through queer blakfullas today.
