Anna Cunningham

Anna Cunningham (b. 1992) is an artist working on the unceded lands of the Boon Wurrung and Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nations. Working predominantly sculpturally, she is interested in the afterlife of manufacturing processes, pertaining to a broader ecological thought. Searching for a tempered life in discarded things - through reforming fragments, and the transmutation of material - open ended tangents and threads are used to explore and agitate murky narratives between material and allegory.

Anna completed an honours degree in Fine Arts at Monash Art, Design and Architecture (2018), she held a solo show ‘Humidity Screens’ at Cathedral Cabinet (2019), and more recently, exhibited in group show ‘The Devil Finds Work for Idle Hands’ at Hyacinth Gallery (2021), and featured in No no no mag no.3, no more poetry (2023).

Anna has intended to spend some time down at the Alice Springs Recycling Centre, learning about the local tip processes, collecting samples in aid of her material experiments, and developing her research and thoughts around waste and excess. Come and find out what she’s been up to.
